When should the radiator fans run 1985 VF1000R?

Pretty high. The needle is typically close to the red before then turn on. There are other switch part numbers available to make the fans turn on at a more reasonable temperature.

Jamie you right about that the fans come on at hot and only run for maybe 10 to 20 sec... System is clean with 180 stat. What is the part number for that switch ? John

i think there are some Subaru 'stats that will fit - i read that somewhere once...

Here are some details about thermostats that fit:

Stant brand numbers
160° - 35366 BT 336 160
170° - 35967
180° - 35368 BT 336 180
1975-1991 Honda Civic All 3 door(hatchback) and CRX models
also 1986-1991 Acura Integra, all engine sizes.



I'd suggest going with the 160°. I think I remember seeing somewhere that the stock one is like 195° or something stupid like that.
